FAQ
Can HIGHWIRE cause any network packet delays ?
No. HIGHWIRE operates exactly like a simple network switch and does not buffer multiple packets, so it cannot cause delays. The normal transmission relay time is insignificant compared to processing delays introduced by equipment such as IP cameras. codec systems, NVRs and viewing applications. If network latency is being experienced, it will almost certainly be caused by other devices on the network or network traffic overload.
Can HIGHWIRE affect the quality of the IP video stream in any way ?
No. HIGHWIRE is a Ethernet adaptor device and does not alter the network packet data in any way. Therefore the image quality cannot be affected. Note that network overload resulting in packet loss is the most likely culprit if there are drop-outs in the video stream.
Can HIGHWIRE be used to connect all types of network devices or just IP cameras ?
All types of network devices may connected over a HIGHWIRE link. All HIGHWIRE devices provide a full 100BaseTX Ethernet connection which means that it provides a 100Mbps link both up and down the cable (full duplex). Whilst HIGHWIRE was designed to solve the problem of connecting IP cameras over legacy coaxial cable originally used for analog video CCTV applications, it is in fact ideal for all types of Ethernet connection.
What is the difference between HIGHWIRE and HIGHWIRE Powerstar ?
HIGHWIRE is data only. HIGHWIRE Powerstar is Ethernet over Coax with POE. This means the HIGHWIRE Base unit delivers power to the HIGHWIRE Camera unit over the coax, and from there to the IP via the Ethernet link (via POE).
Can HIGHWIRE be used as a single unit ?
No, two HIGHWIRE devices of some type must always be used, one at each end of the coax.
Where can I find basic documentation for Axis Device Manager Extend?
You can find the basic documentation on the product support page.
What does “Credentials Mismatch” mean in AXIS Device Manager?
It means that the master credentials (username and/or password) entered in AXIS Device Manager don’t match the ones set in the device.
Does AXIS Device Manager support basic authentication?
"Yes, AXIS Device Manager 5.x supports Basic authentication if the following requirement are met:
The device is not in AXIS Device Manager list before it is configured to use basic authentication.
HTTPS is disabled on the device through the web interface (only HTTP should be enabled) before it is added to the AXIS Device Manager list.
Basic authentication is the only option (no digest authentication) before the device is added to AXIS Device Manager list."
Why do I get "HTTPS certificate not trusted" when I try to add devices to AXIS Device Manager?
"“HTTPS certificate not trusted” is shown when AXIS Device Manager discovers devices that can be contacted only through HTTPS, but where the AXIS Device Manager doesn’t trust the server certificate installed on the device.
There are two possible reasons for this:
The Axis device runs AXIS OS version 7.20 or higher which is preconfigured with a self-signed certificate.
The device is configured with a server certificate from another CA than the one configured in AXIS Device Manager.
To be able to add the devices to AXIS Device Manager anyway, go to Configuration > Security and enable Ignore certificate validation."
Why do I get “Invalid key” when I try to register my AXIS Camera Station 5 license?
"Either the key doesn’t contain 16 characters, or it has been registered in another system.
If the key is registered in another system, you need to release it from that system before you can associate it to the new one. To release a license key from a system, go into the system details and click Release. Make a note of the license key and activate it in the new system. For more details, watch this video:"""
How can I connect my Axis device to O3C?
"To connect to a one-click cloud connection (O3C) service, press and hold the control button on the device. You must register the device with the O3C service within 24 hours of pressing the control button. To verify your ownership of the device, you need the device’s owner authentication key (OAK). Each Axis device comes with a piece of paper with the OAK registration key printed on it. You can also find the OAK key through the device´s web interface.
For more information about O3C, see AXIS OS Knowledge base > O3C AXIS OS Knowledge base > O3C."
How long is the warranty on my Axis product?
"The general warranty for an Axis product is 5 years.
To find out more on Axis warranty program look here:

How can I setup automatic date and time synchronization on my Axis device?
"To set the date and time synchronization options, log in to the device’s web interface and follow the path in the table that corresponds to the device’s software version.
AXIS OS version: Web interface configuration path
< 7.10 Setup > Basic Setup > Date & Time
≥ 7.10 Settings > System > Date and time
≥ 10.9 System > Date and time
≥ 11.6 System > Time and Location.
To find out more about automatic date and time synchronization, see AXIS OS Hardening Guide > Configure Date and Time settings and AXIS OS Knowledge base > NTP and NTS."
How do I reset my Axis product to the factory default settings?
"IMPORTANT! Reset to factory default should be used with caution. A reset to factory default resets all settings, including the IP address, to the factory default values.
The steps for resetting a device to its factory default settings varies between devices. To see how to reset your device, go to the device’s user manual at help.axis.com and check the Troubleshooting section. "
What is the default IP address for my Axis device?
"Most networks have a DHCP server that automatically assigns IP addresses to connected devices. The default IP address below is if your network does not have a DHCP server.
AXIS OS version: Default IP address
< 11.8 192.168.0.90
≥ 11.8 169.254.X.X
For more information, see How to assign an IP address and access your device > About default IP addresses."
What is the default username and password for an Axis edge device?
"Only devices with old AXIS OS versions have a default username and password:
Username: root
Password: pass
In later versions, you set the password for the default administrator account the first time you access the device through its web interface."
Are 3rd party certificates between fibre cable and telephone cable TC032PEW-LSF different?
"We don’t provide 3rd party certification for TC032PEW-LSF cable. The only thing which might help is ISO certificates:
