FAQ

Does Veracity provide advance replacements for faulty units under warranty ?

Yes, if a support contract is in place, this will normally include advance replacements for equipment which has failed and cannot easily be repaired on site. If there is no support contract in place, then units under warranty will be returned for repair and only replaced if a major fault is found. However, advance replacements are generally available via distributors for IP Transmission products. Please note however, that most returned Transmission products are NFF (No Fault Found) and the issue usually turns out to be an installation error. Therefore please consult Technical Support for installation advice before assuming that a unit is faulty.

Does Veracity offer support or maintenance contracts ?

Yes, Veracity offers technical support contracts for our Systems Products and Integrated Security Management installations, via System Integrators to End Users. These chargeable support contracts include software upgrades and priority support, including on-site support where appropriate. Veracity does not provide general maintenance contracts for equipment as these are normally provided by the System Integrator. However, Veracity does offer extended warranty contracts for hardware systems. See the Support pages for further information.

Is CAMSWITCH Mobile powered by POE ?

No, it is designed to be powered by a vehicle battery or electrical system and so is powered by 12V to 24V DC. It generates POE voltages from this source for the four or eight POE outputs for IP cameras or other POE devices.

If a product fails under warranty, should I contact Veracity directly or the sales channel from which it was purchased ?

First, check our FAQ and Troubleshooting guide. Most problems can be resolved through correct connection and configuration. If it is a n IP Transmission product and you are certain the product has failed, please contact your sales channel first, as they should be able to assist with a warranty replacement. If it is a Systems product, then please go to our Support page and submit a Technical Support ticket (request for help).

What is the maximum POE budget for CAMSWITCH when powered by POE ?

CAMSWITCH 4 Plus can accept the maximum POE input for a POE powered device (71W). Given that the CAMSWITCH device itself will use up to 3W depending on load, then ~68W of POE is available as a total power budget across the four POE output ports.

Can I use OUTREACH on cable types other than Cat5 or above ?

This is not recommended as range may be restricted by both power losses and Ethernet bandwidth limitations of the cable. Although OUTREACH will account for any extra power lost, the reduced data performance may reduce the maximum length of each cable segment to significantly less than 100m / 328ft.

Does OUTREACH affect the quality of the IP video stream in any way ?

No. OUTREACH is a Ethernet adaptor device and does not alter the network packet data in any way. Therefore the image quality cannot be affected. Note that network overload elsewhere resulting in packet loss is the most likely culprit if there are drop-outs in the video stream.

Can I daisy-chain multiple OUTREACH devices to get a much longer distance ?

Yes, each OUTREACH will extend by another 100m, so long as there is sufficient POE to power them. Thus three OUTREACH devices can provide a reliable data connection over 400m [Switch and POE source - 100m - OUTREACH - 100m - OUTREACH - 100m - OUTREACH - 100m - Device]. Beyond this, it is better and more cost-effective to use a pair of LONGSPAN adaptors at each end which will provide a data connection distance of up to 820m.

Can LONGSPAN affect the quality of the IP video stream in any way ?

No. LONGSPAN is a Ethernet adaptor device and does not alter the network packet data in any way. Therefore the image quality cannot be affected. Note that network overload resulting in packet loss is the most likely culprit if there are drop-outs in the video stream.

Are OUTREACH devices waterproof ?

Yes, the "XT" OUTREACH models are all specifically designed for external applications. The XT models must be installed correctly for weatherproof operation, including selection of the correct size of cable gland to suit the network cable being used. Three sizes are included in with the product, covering almost all types of standard external network cable. Note that the non-XT models are not weatherproof and are designed for internal applications for for installation in a separate weatherproof housing.

Are LONGSPAN devices waterproof ?

Yes, there is a LONGSPAN Max Camera XT weatherproof model designed specially for external applications. All other LONGSPAN models are designed for internal use or must be housed in a weatherproof housing if they are to be used externally.

Does LIGHTSPAN need SFP modules to work ?

No. LIGHTSPAN is a self-contained unit with SC100 type fibre connections.

Can POE be delivered over fibre with LIGHTSPAN ?

No. Fibre is not capable of delivering power as it cannot conduct electrical current. This is a key reason why POE connections on copper structured cabling is so convenient.

Can I connect two pairs of HIGHWIRE back-to-back to reach 600m ?

Yes, you can. Note that there can also be up to 100m between the HIGHWIREs in the middle of the connections. If the coax cable is RG6 or RG 11, then they will deliver 400m and 500m connections respectively, and 100m at either end, before and after the HIGHWIRE devices. If the cable can be selected for the installation, then consider the LONGSPAN option, which cann provide the same 100BaseTX network connections up to 820m on Cat6 network cable.

Are LIGHTSPAN devices waterproof ?

No, all LIGHTSPAN models are designed for internal use or must be housed in a weatherproof housing if they are to be used externally. However, LIGHTSPAN SC100 Backbox is extremely compact and is specifically designed to be used inside an external camera housing.

Can a HIGHWIRE Powerstar Duo or Quad be powered by POE ?

Yes, they can be powered by POE over coax from the HIGHWIRE Powerstar base unit. Note that Duo and Quad can be locally powered by a Veracity POE power supply (56V-57V) for maximum POE power output, which is a maximum of 30W per port.

Are HIGHWIRE devices waterproof ?

No. All current HIGHWIRE models must be housed in a weatherproof housing if they are to be used externally. Note that HIGHWIRE Powerstar Camera Backbox is designed to fit inside IP camera housings.

Can I connect an analogue camera with HIGHWIRE ?

No. HIGHWIRE provides an Ethernet network connection over coaxial cable and is designed for connecting IP Cameras, not analog cameras.

Can HIGHWIRE handle multicast streams?

HIGHWIRE forwards packets exactly as received, and will not interfere with multicast streams.

Does HIGHWIRE require configuration or management software ?

No. All HIGHWIRE devices are transparent to the network, have no IP address and require no configuration during installation nor any management even in very long-term use. HIGHWIRE devices are extremely reliable and will provide continuous service over many, many years.
