May 2020, Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, has installed Thermal Elevated Temperature Screening Solutions from Hikvision to improve the health and safety of their employees and visitors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The system works by automatically checking the forehead skin temperature in real time as employees pass by, maintaining a 2m gap in accordance with UK Government social distancing advice.
If a person is over a normal temperature threshold, an audible and visual alarm is given and they will be asked to verify their body temperature using a medical thermometer.
If in the future face masks become mandatory, the system can also verify if a visitor or employee is wearing a mask.
James Vian, Technical and Training Manager said ‘The temperature screening solution has been installed in our main reception as well as the warehouse entrances at both the Head Office and our Environ House warehouse. The system includes the Hikvision Thermographic Bullet and Turret Cameras with the addition of the Hikvision Blackbody Calibrator that increases the accuracy of the readings from ±0.5oC to ±0.3oC.’
Andy Cooper, Supply Chain Director at Mayflex said “It’s a non-contact means of quickly and consistently measuring the skin temperature of a person’s forehead, whilst maintaining social distancing in line with current Government guidelines. In doing so, we can reduce the likelihood of someone with an elevated temperature coming into contact with other building occupants. This also reduces the possibility of losing an entire shift for 14 days, ensuring that we can deliver on our customers’ needs even in these challenging times”
Andy concluded “It gives me confidence that we are doing everything we can to ensure the wellbeing of staff and protecting the business during the Coronavirus Pandemic”
Hikvision are the world’s number one manufacturer of security products, which are distributed by Mayflex in the UK.

April 2020, Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, has appointed a new account manager to manage and develop accounts in the Midlands and surrounding areas, with a specific focus on the security product portfolio as part of the converged solution.
Matthew Farthing joined the business at the end of March and comes to Mayflex from a security installer background, so is familiar with the type of customer Mayflex works with. Having worked in a general sales and national account management role, Matthew is currently undergoing a full induction, albeit it remotely, to prepare himself for when he can get on the road to visit his customer base.
Regions covered by Matthew include Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton, Birmingham Wolverhampton, Coventry, Telford, Peterborough and Cambridge.
Tom Filce, Head of Security Sales at Mayflex comments, “Matthew has joined the Mayflex team at an exceptional time for the industry and the country. We are forging ahead with a full remote induction plan by using the tools and infrastructure set in place by our IT team. “
Tom continues, “We will take this additional time to get Matthew trained on all of our business systems and on the wide range of industry leading vendors that Mayflex distributes such as Avigilon, Axis, Hikvision, MOBOTIX, Paxton and Suprema via webinars and online tutorials.”
Finally, Tom commented “Matthews knowledge and expertise will provide a further dedicated resource for our customer base working with them to get the best out of Mayflex and our product portfolio. Tom Filce, Head of Security Sales at Mayflex comments, “The sales team are fired up and ready to go to market with this new addition to our already strong security product portfolio. We are committed to offering this choice, but also to growing sales, and creating new business for each of the vendors we proudly represent, we see this announcement as complimentary to our existing vendor portfolio, and an enhancement to the choice we offer our customers.”

October 2019, Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, has made some fundamental changes to the way its customers goods are wrapped and secured for delivery. Following the highly successful implementation of plastic free packaging for the Excel infrastructure product range in September of this year, Mayflex has continued to work hard to introduce environmentally friendly replacements for much of the packaging used on a day to day basis at its headquarters in Birmingham.
The first of several changes to be made is the removal of plastic bubble wrap, which has been replaced by a cardboard equivalent. Standard tape has been replaced by a paper version and plastic bubble packaging has been replaced by a corrugated recycled paper tubing. The cable winding service that is offered free of charge to customers is now utilising corrugated cardboard covering opposed to plastic wrapping and the ‘Specialist Support Services’ team are using brown paper bags to despatch GOP boxes and protect cassettes situated at the end of all pre-terminated copper looms, opposed to plastic bubble bags.
Andy Cooper, Chief Operations Officer at Mayflex commented, “Everyone is tremendously aware of the damage that plastic has on the environment and by making these simple changes, we can continue with our mission to lead the way in our industry to remove as much ‘single use plastic’ from the supply chain as possible.”
Andy continues, “To effectively contribute to the protection of the ecosystem, Mayflex relies on its customers and workforce’s principles and integrity. If we can actively support both groups to make the choices that help them to reduce waste to landfill, save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, then we are giving them the option of working with a distribution partner that cares and can make a difference.”
Finally, Andy comments, “This is by no means the last of the modifications that Mayflex will be implementing throughout all areas of its operation. We will continue to source suitable alternatives to plastic until we can eradicate its use from our business model”.

Paxton10, Paxton’s new, integrated single-platform system, is being launched later this year. It combines access control, video, smart credentials, feature-rich software and, for the first time, Paxton10 cameras, to offer customers something they’ve never seen before.
The launch follows a period of in-depth research, development and engagement with installers.
Gareth O’Hara, Paxton’s Chief Sales Officer, said: “Paxton10 was designed with ultimate simplicity in mind, utilising the latest technology to deliver powerful features, including the first ever camera from Paxton.
“Anyone who has dealt with Paxton knows we take feedback very seriously. It plays such an important part in product development and has helped shape Paxton10, our most powerful, most complete system to date.”
Paxton released its first version of Paxton10 in September 2015, when it was fitted across a range of different sites with different needs.
Gareth said: “Since then we’ve been working closely with installers. We’ve incorporated lots of their feedback and I can say we’ve achieved the original vision of Paxton10 and a lot more. We’ll be offering customers something they’ve never seen before.”
Other changes made as a result of customer feedback is compatibility with Paxton’s key systems – PaxLock Pro, wireless door handles, and Entry, its door entry solution.
Some other exciting features include:
Feature-rich video management software
Use a smartphone or smart watch as an access token
Paxton10 cameras make system set-up simple
Third-party IP cameras also supported
Free iOS and Android apps to support remote site management and site access
Gareth said: “Our installers have told us they’re very excited about the direction we were going in with Paxton10, particularly with the new technology. And people really understand the need for a unified platform in the mid-market.”
This need is based on figures that show access control and video make up two-thirds of the security market – but only one in 10 sites actually integrate the two systems.
Gareth said: “People are becoming more demanding of their technology. They want a single point of management, rather than disparate systems, and they want to view and manage things on a hand-held device.
“New technology allows us to achieve these things but, as a manufacturer, we have a responsibility to make our technology as accessible and as simple as possible. We’re incredibly excited about the launch of Paxton10 and can’t wait to show customers what we’ve been working on.”
Be among the first in the world to hear about the next generation of Paxton10.
Paxton will be showcasing Paxton10 during a series of roadshows this autumn.
Our conversations* with installers have told us they want to see new innovations in the industry in a location close to home or work. This is why we’re taking Paxton10 to them and will be visiting nine prestigious venues across the UK from 12th September to 10th October.
The fun and interactive roadshows will include:
New product demos and previews
A keynote presentation with CEO Adam Stroud and CSO Gareth O’Hara
Virtual reality motor racing with big prizes, including a £2,500 holiday voucher
A free essential installer kit, worth £60
Free food and refreshments
Spaces are limited so a £45 refundable deposit is required to secure your ticket.

Excel Networking Solutions, the infrastructure provider that offers: Copper and Optical Fibre, Pre-Terminated Solutions, Racks, PDUs, Voice and a full range of accessories, is making significant changes to the packaging of their copper and fibre optic components that is forecast to save over 40 tonnes (40,000kg) of single-use plastic each year.
Based upon Excel’s 2018 performance, they estimate that at least a staggering 16 million single-use plastic bags will be removed from the supply chain each year.
Jason Rudge, Commercial Procurement Director at Excel Networking commented ‘As a business we are acutely aware of the damage that plastic has on the environment and we are determined to lead the way in our industry to remove as much ‘single use plastic’ from the supply chain.”
Jason continued, “It hasn’t been an easy change but one that we’ve persevered with to develop alternative ‘plastic free’ packaging for much of our copper and fibre product lines, as well as reducing card board box sizes where we can. The new plastic free packaging will start shipping out in August 2019 and will become the standard as stocks of the current packaging designs are depleted”.
Jason added “Another significant benefit to the installers is the amount of time that will be saved on site with having to open and then dispose of plastic bags, especially of components and patch leads.”
The changes mean that keystone jacks will no longer be supplied in individual single-use plastic bags as standard. Instead, they will be sold in packs of 24, presented in a 100% recyclable natural cardboard box that features no plastic at all. Similarly, rather than individual patch leads being supplied in a single-use plastic packet, they will be secured and labelled with a natural and recyclable paper-based wrapping.
At the 2019 Excel Partner Briefings, Excel Networking asked customers for their thoughts on their product packaging. A substantial proportion of customers (92%) indicated that if products were available in multi-unit packs rather than single units, that would be a preferable purchasing option. In addition to this, almost 40% of respondents said that their customers were requesting reductions in single-use plastic packaging materials as part of the tender selection processes.
Jason concluded, “We are committed to listening to our customers and end users to find solutions with our suppliers that work for them. This latest drive to remove single-use plastic bags from a range of Excel products is the latest example of our efforts to improve our sustainability – but it is by no means the end of the road.”
For more information about Excel Networking Solutions, please visit their website or contact the Sales Team on 0121 326 7557 or email sales@excel-networking.com. July 2019, Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, has recently issued each of its office-based staff with a re-fillable metal water bottle and branded china mug to utilise on a day to day basis. Each item has been distributed as part of the businesses continuing efforts to lessen its impact on the environment by reducing its consumption of single use plastic and paper.
To coincide with this, Mayflex has replaced its free vend, drinks machines with a model that does not dispense cups. All employees are actively encouraged to consider the environment throughout their working day and the issuing of water bottle and mugs is helping them to do their bit for the planet.
Andy Cooper, Chief Operations Officer at Mayflex commented, “To effectively contribute to the protection of the ecosystem, Mayflex relies on its workforce principles and integrity, we actively want to support our staff and help them make choices including reducing waste to landfill, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
Andy continues, “Our projected annual reduction of single use lined paper and plastic cups is circa 120,000 per year from all vending machines throughout the business. Previously all items would have been disposed of and made their way into general waste and sent for incineration.”
Finally Andy commented, “The distribution of these items also ties in with our well-being initiative which is driven by our HR team, actively encouraging our staff to look after themselves and stay hydrated.”
On Wednesday 17th July 2019, the Leadership team from Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, spent a day volunteering for the Community Environmental Trust. A charity that uses horticulture to help children and the elderly learn how to grow & cook healthy, nutritious food.
The team worked in groups around the site in Castle Vale, Birmingham, taking on practical tasks that the charity had little time to do. From creating a colourful fairy garden, laying accessible pathways, building raised beds, improving growing space in the poly-tunnel & constructing new picnic tables to name but a few of the tasks.
The 18 members of the Leadership team were led by Andrew Percival, Managing Director. Andrew commented “It felt rewarding to do something that clearly made a difference & see the great work that this small local charity does for the community.”
Andrew concluded “It was great opportunity to bring our management team together from across the World. We spent the Tuesday meeting and discussing the business and then the Wednesday doing physical work for the charity, which also provided a great team building activity.”
Ben from the charity was delighted by the efforts of the team. “We’d never have been able to do what you’ve done for us today. All the tasks make such a difference to the site and allow us to spend more time with the people we really need to help. I’m delighted you chose to help us. Thank you so much Mayflex.”
Clare Lundberg, Mayflex HR Director said “I hope by us all getting involved it inspires other people across the business to think about volunteering and using their time to help other local charities.”
