Excel Launches A Plastic Free Certificate Generator

Excel Networking Solutions, the infrastructure provider that offers: Copper and Optical Fibre, Pre-Terminated Solutions, Racks, PDUs, Voice and a full range of accessories, was the first cabling vendor in the world to remove single use plastic from the majority of its product range.  They are excited to announce the launch of two new tools which will help customers measure and promote their sustainability savings when they use Excel products.

Based upon Excel’s 2021 performance, they estimate that at least a staggering 18 million single-use plastic bags are removed from the supply chain each year, which equates to 45 tonnes of plastic.

Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager at Excel Networking commented ‘As a business we are acutely aware of the damage that plastic has on the environment, and we were determined to lead the way in our industry to remove as much ‘single use plastic’ from the supply chain.  The environment and sustainability are core focus areas for our business, and this is just one of the initiatives that we have undertaken as part of this.’

Tracey continued ‘We understand that our customers also have sustainability targets and goals to reach so allowing them to easily understand how much plastic they have saved or could save by choosing Excel is a benefit to them.   To this end we have created two tools available in English, French and Spanish. Firstly, a ‘Plastic Free Packaging Calculator’ where they can add in the quantities of each product being used and instantly get an overview of the potential savings in Kgs they can make.’

Tracey concluded ‘The second tool is to provide Excel partners that buy directly from Mayflex, with a certificate to show how much plastic they have saved in any given year.   Partners complete a simple request form, and a certificate is then produced for them including their company logo.   This is perfect to include on their websites, or in any sustainability documentation that they need to create.’

Mayflex Open a New Interactive Demonstration Suite

January 2023, Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, has opened a new fully interactive demonstration suite called M-Tech, at their newly refurbished HQ in Birmingham.

The Mayflex Technology Suite, M-Tech, has been designed with three distinct areas; Excel Racks and Cabling, Excel FTTx and Security and Access Control which showcases a wide range of vendors and products that are available to buy from Mayflex.

Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager said ‘Following on from a complete refurbishment of our offices in early 2022, the last area to be updated was the M-Tech.  This is now a much larger room located straight off our reception area and provides the perfect environment to showcase our wide portfolio of products.’

Tracey continued ‘With the security and access control area we have a dedicated pod for each key vendor including AVA, Avigilon, Axis, Hikvision, Mobotix, Paxton, Pelco, Suprema and Veracity. Each pod displays a selection of their latest products, all working, so that customers and our associates can see for themselves how the products work and in the case of the cameras, the quality of the images.   There is a large monitor on each pod where you can view the cameras or watch videos. We also have a central PC and 55” screen for videos, presentations, and literature available, specific to each vendor.’

Tracey continued ‘The Excel focus area consists of 5 Environ Racks, positioned on a plinth that allows you to see the cabling running underneath and into each rack.  Within the racks there is a display of the Excel copper and fibre products, together with complementary products such as the Aura AV solution.   We’ve even purposefully set up a few intentional fault inter-links between the racks to be able to demonstrate the testing prowess of the AEM and Fluke testers.’

Tracey continued ‘The third area is the Excel FTTx solution which has a large diagram to show the topology of the FTTx deployments and displays boards to be added soon, together with sample products so you can get a close-up look of the quality of the product range.’

Tracey concluded ‘We are delighted with the finished result; we’ve spent the time to get this right to best represent our portfolio of products.  We will be welcoming our associates into the space for regular training and more importantly our customers to demonstrate the many features and benefits of the products and solutions on display.

If you would like to visit the new M-Tech and newly refurbished Mayflex HQ then please contact us on 0121 326 7557, email sales@mayflex.com or speak to your Mayflex account manager to arrange a visit.

NDAA Compliance in the CCTV and Security Industry: A Growing Necessity in the UK Market?

NDAA for UK Security System Installers

The UK's CCTV and security market is rapidly evolving, and businesses that use digital and physical surveillance technologies must comply with all applicable regulations. One of the key requirements for CCTV and security installers and end-users operating in the UK market is National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) compliance. NDAA compliance has become increasingly important for businesses looking to ensure high-level assurance against products and components manufactured by a limited set of Chinese suppliers.

What is the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA)?

The National Defence Authorization Act is an annual US law that outlines obligations and restrictions on government contractors. It is designed to protect military personnel from exploitation by foreign governments by regulating the purchase of technology or services used by US armed forces personnel or other US federal departments. As part of this process, suppliers must demonstrate compliance with NDAA requirements, including export control and economic sanctions laws. To do business with a US-based company, all vendors must certify their compliance with various aspects of this act.

How Does NDAA Compliance Impact UK Security System Distributors?

Although NDAA is not UK legislation, it has become a proxy standard to ensure high-level assurance against products and components manufactured by a limited set of Chinese suppliers. This means that NDAA compliance is becoming increasingly important for UK CCTV and security installers and end-users operating in the UK market. While NDAA does not directly apply to CCTV and security installers in the UK, some UK businesses may be impacted if they do business with government or critical infrastructure organisations.

Key Provisions for Organizations Working with Surveillance Technologies

To remain fully compliant with NDAA requirements, CCTV and security system distributors must adhere to various key provisions outlined in the act. Some of the most relevant provisions for UK businesses working with surveillance technologies include:

Self-certification of compliance with relevant economic sanctions laws and understanding of how local data protection laws apply where necessary
No access to sensitive information for foreign nationals unless authorized by an executive order or classified agreement
Background checks for all employees working within organizations utilizing surveillance technologies from both American and British authorities
Obligations for contracting firms relating specifically to encryption standards used during transmission or storage processes
Additional authorization from government bodies required prior to exporting goods abroad
Immediate reporting of any alleged violations to avoid penalties
GDPR rules still apply even when dealing with international suppliers based outside EU territory (i.e. only store what's absolutely necessary)

Conclusion

In conclusion, NDAA compliance is becoming increasingly important for UK CCTV and security system distributors and installers, particularly those dealing with sensitive customers such as government organisations, healthcare providers, education, and critical infrastructure.

With the US government expected to designate more companies as covered entities, NDAA compliance will remain a crucial consideration for the industry. As the UK's premier distributor of NDAA compliant CCTV solutions, Mayflex offers a range of CCTV, access and Security options, including products from Ava Security, Avigilon, Axis, and Pelco, to ensure your security system is fully compliant.
