What is the difference between a channel and horizontal cabling in networks?

A channel is cable run from equipment to equipment, this would include the patch leads and connectors between a switch and device such as a Desktop, Laptop or IP phone, part of this channel is the horizontal cable which runs from the server room to where the desktop, laptop or other device plugs in, its the main cable length between 2 points without the connectors and patch leads.
